Lessons
Violin and piano for children aged 5 to 16, from complete beginners to Grade 8 and GCSE.
Violin lessons
Violin is my main instrument. It rewards patience like few others, and the moment a child first draws a warm, clear note is always special.

In person or online
In person
Face to face, so I can guide posture and hand position up close. Best for younger children. Get in touch to check availability in your area.
Online
Over video call, wherever you are. Works well for older children. You need a stable connection and a camera set up so I can see their hands and, for violin, their bow arm.

Questions from parents
What age can my child start?
Most children can start from around 5. At that age curiosity matters more than anything else, and lessons are kept short and playful.
Does my child need their own instrument?
Yes, to practise at home. Children play smaller violins that are swapped for bigger ones as they grow, and I am happy to help you find the right size and advise on buying or renting. For piano, a digital piano with weighted keys is a great start.
Can you prepare my child for grade exams?
Yes. I can take students through ABRSM or Trinity grade exams from Grade 1 to Grade 8, and help with GCSE Music performance pieces. We can talk about when an exam makes sense for your child.
Can I stay during the lesson?
Yes, and for younger children it really helps. You will see what we work on and can help with practice during the week.
How much should my child practise?
Little and often works best. Ten to fifteen minutes a day is plenty for younger children, building up as they grow.
How often are lessons?
Once a week, ideally at the same time. It keeps momentum going and turns practice into a habit.
